چکیده

INTRODUCTION: The notion that species boundaries can be porous to introgression is increasingly accepted. Yet the broader role of introgression in evolution remains contentious and poorly documented, partly because of the challenges involved in accurately identifying introgression in the very groups where it is most likely to occur. Recently diverged species often have incomplete reproductive barriers and may hybridize where they overlap. However, because of retention and stochastic sorting of ancestral polymorphisms, inference of the correct species branching order is notoriously challenging for recent speciation events, especially those closely spaced in time. Without knowledge of species relationships, it is impossible to identify instances of introgression.

Mosquito genomics. Extensive introgression in a malaria vector species complex revealed by phylogenomics.

Introgressive hybridization is now recognized as a widespread phenomenon, but its role in evolution remains contested. Here, we use newly available reference genome assemblies to investigate phylogenetic relationships and introgression in a medically important group of Afrotropical mosquito sibling species. We have identified the correct species branching order to resolve a contentious phylogen...

Molecular identification of the Anopheles Fluviatilis complex in Sistan Va Baluchestan province

Introduction: Malaria is one of the most important health problems in developing countries. Malaria is endemic in southeast of Iran including Chabahar Township. One of the malaria vectors in Iran is Anopheles Fluviatilis James as other part of world, which is a complex of at least three cryptic species provisionally, designated as species S, T, and U. These species are morphologically ind...

Reticulate Speciation and Barriers to Introgression in the Anopheles gambiae Species Complex

Speciation as a process remains a central focus of evolutionary biology, but our understanding of the genomic architecture and prevalence of speciation in the face of gene flow remains incomplete. The Anopheles gambiae species complex of malaria mosquitoes is a radiation of ecologically diverse taxa. This complex is well-suited for testing for evidence of a speciation continuum and genomic barr...

rDNA-ITS2 Identification of Anopheles pulcherrimus (Diptera: Culicidae): Genetic Differences and Phylogenetic Relation with Other Iranian Vectors and Its Implications for Malaria Control

Anopheles pulcherrimus Theobald has a wide distribution in western Asia and is a potential vector of malaria in Iran. We have examined the rDNA-ITS2 (internal transcribed spacer 2) region of An. pulcherrimus specimens collected during the two peaks of activity (May-June and October-November) from Sistan and Baluchistan province, southeastern Iran. There were no consistent differences between sp...

Title: Reticulate speciation and adaptive introgression in the Anopheles gambiae species

21 Anopheles gambiae, the primary vector of human malaria in sub-Saharan Africa, exists as 22 a series of ecologically specialized subgroups that are phylogenetically nested within the 23 Anopheles gambiae species complex. These species and subgroups exhibit varying 24 degrees of reproductive isolation, sometimes recognized as distinct subspecies. We have 25 sequenced 32 complete genomes from f...
